UAHuntsville Provost named sole finalist for UT-Arlington Presidency
UAHuntsville Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Vistasp Karbhari, has been named the sole finalist for the presidency at the University of Texas in Arlington.
Karbhari, the second in command at UAH, will officially be offered the position at UT-Arlington following the 21-day waiting period required by Texas state law. Karbhari came to UAH in 2008 after teaching at the University of California-San Diego. The current president of UT-Arlington, James Spaniola, announced last year that he would relinquish his position after a suitable replacement had been found.
“We extend our congratulations to Dr. Karbhari as the finalist for the presidency of UT Arlington and appreciate the UT System Board of Regents for their excellent choice,” Spaniola said in his press release following the announcement. “I look forward to working closely with the new president to ensure the smoothest transition in the weeks and months ahead.”
Karbhari will leave behind a record of innovation and progress including the creation of several new academic programs on campus. In response to developing job markets, UAH now offers a doctorate of philosophy and master of science in Aerospace System Engineering, a doctorate of philosophy and master of science in modeling and simulation and a master of science in information assurance and security.
“Extraordinary leadership is crucial for our institutions and the unique and innovative environment at UT Arlington calls for an effective and visionary leader,” Fransisco Cigarroa, chancellor of the UT System Board of Regents, said. The students and faculty of UT-Arlington can look forward to getting just that.
